Physical Education (PE)

At Sandfield Primary School, we believe PE & Sport plays an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.   This is taught through focussed PE lessons lead by class teachers, swimming instructors and Sport4kids coaches.

We also encourage children to lead healthy lifestyles by encouraging healthy eating and supporting them to make informed choices about their own health and wellbeing. We have welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding for 2 years to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource to develop high quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our pupils.

The National Curriculum Programme of Study for Key Stage 1 and 2 states ‘A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities.’(Department for Eduaction:2013). We aim to meet this by providing opportunities for pupils to become confident with the skills taught in lessons and support them with their personal health and fitness.  We provide the children with opportunities to compete in competitive sports through fixtures and competitions with other local schools. This supports the children to embed values such as fairness and respect.
